Planning Your Trip to Park City

Ah, Park City, where the only thing better groomed than the slopes are the visiting celebrities. But you don’t have to be famous to get star treatment in this Valhalla of spas, resorts and outdoor sports. Below, some hot tips for getting there, getting around and getting the four-handed hot stone massage you deserve.

Park City Location and Directions

Directions to Park City are a cinch. Simply fly into Salt Lake City International Airport and go east until the 7-11s start to look like ski lodges (about 45 minutes).

Driving directions from SLC International to Park City

Get on I-80 Eastbound from North Terminal Drive. Continue on I-80 for 28 miles, then take exit 145 toward UT-224 S until you hit Park Drive. Once there, you can take Park City’s free public transportation all around town.

Transportation options to Park City

  • RIDESHARING: Uber and Lyft are available and plentiful at SLC International. Meet your driver at the designated rideshare pickup location — look for the curbside signs — located in the middle traffic lane on the ground level. A standard ride (4–5 people) should cost you around $65. You can also request a car with a ski rack during ski season for an additional fee.
  • TAXI: Yellow Cab is the only on-demand taxi service at the airport, available on the ground level. You can reserve a ride in advance online.
  • PRIVATE SHUTTLES: There are several shuttle companies that provide counter service on the ground floor of the terminal. Hotel shuttles can be reserved, as well. Visit an airport information desk for details.
  • RENT A CAR: A variety of rental car companies are located at the Gateway Center, located adjacent to the parking garage. Take one of the two bridges from the baggage claim area. Several companies also offer shuttles to their off-site rental offices; pick-up and drop-off for those is located west of the parking garage.

Where to Stay

Need to rest your screaming quads after a day on the slopes? Park City offers every lodging option imaginable, from luxury lodges, ski-in/ski-out condos, private homes and, of course, Airbnb. Whether you want to kick up your heels in front of a crackling fire or have your heels kicked up and massaged for you in an après-ski spa, Park City has a room (or a sauna, or a pool, or a room completely covered in Robert Redford paraphernalia) with your name on it.

Getting Around in Park City

There might not be such a thing as a free lunch, but there is such a thing as a free bus. Get around Park City via the city’s comprehensive (and free!) transit system, which stops at all major destinations in town. Planning an outing on Main Street? Ride the iconic trolley or take to the quaint streets by foot.

Ready? We thought so. View bus schedules and transit maps here.

Explore Nearby

Park City’s activities may be inexhaustible, but you’re not easily exhausted. Spend all that extra energy venturing into some nearby cities, where the mountains are just as proud and the activities is just as activity-y. So why are you just sitting there? GO!

Salt Lake City

The city may be salty, but the people are sweet as pie and sporty as Stockton. Do like the local pioneers do and get outdoors. Check out the blooms at Red Butte Garden then take a hike or a bike ride in the foothills. Take TRAX to Temple Square and ogle at gothic architecture then head to the Beehive House for the backstory and some horehound candy (just trust us). Picnic near a babbling brook in City Creek Park then head to one of the clubs for a show. Take in an indie flick at the Broadway or Tower theaters, a symphony at Abravanel Hall or a Broadway musical at the new Eccles Theater, or head toward the horizon and visit the city’s namesake lake at Saltair or Antelope Island.

Heber Valley

Founded by Swiss immigrants back in the day, Heber Valley has grown into an alpine bed-and-breakfast haven so cute it’ll make your teeth hurt. Start off with a visit to the hot pots at the Homestead Resort, where what looks like a giant rocky hill covers a heated natural pool perfect for swimming, scuba diving or paddleboarding. Hike into the hills at Wasatch Mountain State Park, take a dip at Deer Creek Reservoir, then gobble up some gourmet entrées at one of the valley’s many farm-to-table restaurants. Feeling scenic? Take the antique Heber Creeper/Heber Valley Railroad down Provo Canyon, then tube down the Provo River. Feeling nostalgic? Visit in fall and check out Swiss Days, where homespun crafts and homemade food duke it out for dominance. Feeling regal? Visit in winter and check out Midway Ice Castles, where you can pose pensively like Elsa in her frozen kingdom.

Where to Eat

Everyone knows Park City’s food scene is on fleek very good, but did you know it’s as broad as it is deep? Whether you’re jonesing for some classic pizza and pasta or feeling more of a charred-mahi-mahi-with-raspberry-coulis-and-a-side-of-frisee-greens, the town serves up sais quoi and je-ne-sais-quoi in equal measure. (But seriously, what in the sais quoi is this hors-d’oeuvre and how can you get more?) Thirsty? There’s a distillery for that (or two… or three…). Can’t decide? Here are some hot tips on the best restaurants in Park City, from Main Street to mountaintop.

Davanza’s

690 Park Ave.
Pizza, tacos, burgers, and cheesesteaks
$

Something tells you you’re not in Philadelphia anymore, but you can still get a mean cheesesteak on a budget at Davanza’s. When you’ve replenished your East Coast palate, stay for the all-American classics — pizza, tacos, and burgers with a laidback vibe.

High West

703 Park Ave.
Whiskey, vodka, and alpine fare
$$$

If you’re a cross between a cowboy, a skier, and a discriminating lush, High West’s ski-in saloon is your perfect lunch or dinner date with delicious alpine fare and dinner-whiskey pairings. Looking for a spirited education? Head to the actual distillery in Wanship and see how the sausage — er, whiskey and vodka — gets made.

Riverhorse

540 Main St.
Steaks, lobster, and local game
$$$$$

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but four diamonds are what AAA-rated this chic Main Street restaurant. Need to impress a colleague or treat yourself for mastering that double black diamond? Riverhorse hits the spot with sumptuous steaks, fish, and local produce and game. Think farm-to-table, if the table was very, very nice and the farmer was a French food critic.

Vessel Kitchen

1784 Uinta Way
Healthy entrées and sides
$$

Want to get some superfood without going super-broke? Vessel Kitchen is committed to dishing up only the healthiest entrées, salads, soups, and bowls, and it all comes from farmers just down the way, to boot. Speaking of boots, kick them up — this eatery may be delicious, but it’s also relaxed.

Harvest

820 Park Ave. #101
Healthy cafe
$$

At this locally sourced fresh food paradise, you’ll probably have to dodge a local farmer, the neighborhood milkman, and a couple of coffee aficionados to get your food, but it’ll be worth it. Whether you’re noshing on avocado toast or tearing into some paleo banana bread, you’ll feel like you harvested, hunted, or gathered it yourself.
