Huntington Canyon Scenic Drive


Departing from Huntington on SR-31, Huntington Canyon winds up and over the Wasatch Plateau through the Manti-LaSal National Forest.

The views include jewel-like high elevation lakes, diverse vegetation, and vertical cliffs and escarpments. Recreation highlights are picnicking, hiking, camping, 4-wheeling, and fishing.

Ten miles from Fairview is the turnoff to Eccles Canyon (SR-264). This section of the Energy Loop Byway travels across the Skyline Drive on top of the 10,000-foot Wasatch Plateau and connects to SR96. Driving past working coal mine fields and the fishing haven of Electric Lake, the byway eventually connects with Scofield Reservoir State Park.

Surrounded by the Manti-La Sal National Forest, the Huntington and Eccles Canyons Byways Energy Loop provides ample opportunity for hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. In summer, water sports are enjoyed at Scofield Reservoir State Park. Huntington Canyon supplies some of the greatest trophy fly fishing in the state and Electric Lake, Huntington and Cleveland Reservoirs are an angler's dream. There are also improved hiking trails at various sites on the byway. During the winter, ice fishing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

The 48-mile trip to Huntington from Fairview requires approximately one hour to drive.
