Central Utah Fishing


American Fork Creek

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. Walleye run up the river to spawn and some remain in the lower reaches of the river. No access problems. Forest Service campgrounds in area. Gets lots of local pressure. West of I-15 closed during the walleye spawn. Check the proclamation for special regulations.

Beaver Creek

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Access out of the towns of Peoa and Kamas on SR 150. Beautiful small stream that contains some nice fish.

Big Cottonwood Creek

Contains rainbow, brook and brown trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. No access problems. Camping in area.

Blue Lake

Contains largemouth bass, bluegill. U.S. 40 (I-80) west to Wendover, Alt. 93 into Nevada until south of the military reservation (about 20 miles) then east on unpaved road to Salt Springs and Blue Lake. Warm springs keep it from freezing. Fishing is good year round.

Burraston Ponds

Stocked with catchable rainbow. Located west of Mona (north of Nephi) at the south end of Mona Reservoir. Limited number of camping turnouts. No boats with motors allowed. Receives heavy pressure.

Cottonwood Creek

East of Salt LakeValley. Mostly small rainbows. Camping in area.

Cottonwood Canyons lakes

Contain brook, cutthroat and rainbow trout. Great places to explore close to the Wasatch Front. Beautiful area.

Deer Creek Reservoir

Contains rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout; a few perch; good smallmouth bass fishing and walleye. Elevation is 5,500 feet. Five miles southwest of Heber City via U.S. 189 ornortheast of Orem through Provo Canyon (U.S. 189). State park, boat ramp, campgrounds, boat rentals, paved parking areas, showers, sewage dump, fish cleaning stations. This is a heavily used water with lots of water skiing and sailboat use.

Daniels Creek

Contains rainbow and cutthroat trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. 10% private land. Camping limited to turnouts near Highway 40.
Diamond Fork River
Contains brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. From Springville Crossing to the headwaters, artificial flies and lures only. Closed to the possession of cutthroattrout. All other trout species limit 8. Several campgrounds in the area.

DMAD Reservoir

Contains walleye, catfish, bass, carp. On the Sevier River just north of Delta.

Grantsville Reservoir

Contains rainbow, brown trout. Access south of Grantsville on South Willow Creek. Fishing from boats with internal combustion motors is unlawful.

Gunnison Bend Reservoir

Contains catfish, carp, bass, yellow perch, bluegill and a few walleye. Irrigation reservoir that is subject to draw-down. Fishing success will depend on water level.

Gunnison Reservoir

Contains largemouth bass, yellow perch, catfish and bluegill. Access north of Gunnison on Hwy 89.

Hobble Creek

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. Walleye are found near the mouth and walleye run up the stream to spawn. Excellent small stream with good camping.

Jordan River

Brown, rainbow trout; channel catfish; sunfish; white and largemouth bass; walleye; carp; suckers. Flows from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake through the heart of Utah's urban areas in Utah and Salt Lake counties. Most of the trout are planted in the early spring and are caught shortlyafter they are planted. A few manage to live through the summer and get big. Several trout in the 3 to 4 pound range are caught in the river each year. The bass and walleye fishing can be fast at times and the catfish make a fine alternative if the bass fishing is slow.

Jordanelle Reservoir

Contains rainbow, brown trout, smallmouth bass. Modern campgrounds, store, boat ramps, running water.

Maple Lake

Contains rainbow and brook trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow and fingerling brooks. This small lake is near the Payson Lakes. No access problems. No boat ramp. Limited camping - tents only. Fishing from boats with motors is unlawful.

McClellan Reservoir

Contains rainbow and brook trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow and fingerling brook trout. No access problems. No boat ramp. Small lake next to Payson Lakes. Camping at Payson Lake.

Mill Creek

Contains rainbow trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. Some camping.

Mill Hollow Reservoir

Contains rainbow, brook and a few cutthroat trout. Heavily planted with catchable rainbow. This reservoir is owned by the DWR. Beautiful area with nice camping available. Car-topper boats only - not big enough for large boats.

Mona Reservoir

Contains walleye, wipers, chub, bullhead catfish and largemouth bass. Access just north of Mona. Used for irrigation and could dry up in extremely dry years. Limited access. Lots of private property. Best access is near the dam.

Nebo Creek

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. Accessible above the Forest Service boundary line. Limited primitive camping.

Nine-Mile Reservoir

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Elevation is 5,250 feet. Access south of Sterling along U.S. 89. This reservoir lies west of the highway. Fish up to five pounds have been caught here. Private property but open to the public. Sometimes drawn down.

Palisade Lake

Contains rainbow trout. Elevation 5,800 feet. Access off U.S. 89 just northeast of Sterling. Statepark, campgrounds, picnic area, modern restrooms. No boat ramp. Excellent camping at the state park. Fishing from boats with motors is unlawful.

Payson Creek

Contains rainbow trout. Stocked with rainbows. Very limited camping near the stream.

Payson Lakes

Contains rainbow and brook trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow and brook trout fry. Good access. No boat ramp. Excellent campground. Fishing from boats with motors is unlawful.

Provo River

Contains rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout; Rocky Mountain whitefish. Planted with catchable rainbows. Walleye are found in the lower reaches near Utah Lake. Flows through Utah, Wasatch and Summit counties. Campgrounds, concessions, other facilities at various points on the river. Excellent natural brown trout stream with trout up to 20 pounds. One of the most heavily fished rivers in the state. Some private land in Wasatch County. Special regulations.

Redmond Reservoir

Contains northern pike, catfish, bass. Contains a warm spring that keeps the central portion of the lake ice free most of the winter. Access directly south of the town of Redmond. Gravel boat ramp for smaller boats, no camping.

Rush Lake

Contains smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish and bluegill. Access just south of Stockton. Heavy use by recreational boaters. Dirt boat ramp.

Salina Creek

Contains rainbow, brown trout. Access through Salina. Creek follows I-70.

Salt Creek

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. Fish the creek, not just the ponds. Access through Nephi.

San Pitch River

Contains brown and rainbow trout. Pretty good brown trout stream on upper end. Lots of private land so access may be difficult. Ask permission first! Located near Fairview.

Scipio Lake

Has been drawn down for several years. Probably no fish left. Used to be a great largemouth bass fishery.

Settlement Canyon Reservoir

Contains rainbow trout. Stocked with catchables. No boat ramps or camping. Fishing from boats is unlawful. Located southeast of Tooele.

Silver Lake Flat Reservoir

Contains rainbow and brook trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. Good access. No internal combustion motors allowed. No boat ramp. Rough dirt road to lake but well worth the trip. No overnight camping allowed. American Fork Canyon.

Silver Lake

Contains rainbow and brooktrout. Stocked with catchable rainbow and fingerling brook trout. Good access. No boat ramps, no camping. Big Cottonwood Canyon.

South Willow

Contains rainbow, brown trout. Stocked with catchables. This small stream has good access. Stocked before each of the major holidays. Several small campgrounds in the area. Heavy use. Southwest of Grantsville above Grantsville Reservoir. Goes into a pipeline before it gets to the reservoir.

Spanish Fork River

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Walleye are found in the lower reaches near Utah Lake. Access along Hwy 6-89 heading east out of Spanish Fork. No facilities.

Strawberry Reservoir

Contains rainbow, cutthroat; kokanee. Elevation 7,557 feet. U.S. 40 east of Heber City. Campgrounds, boat ramps, Strawberry Bay and Soldier Creek marinas, equipment, bait, cafe. Strawberry Reservoir tributaries are closed to fishing. Special regulations.

Thistle Creek

Contains rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. 80% accessible, checkposting. No camping.

Tibble Fork Reservoir

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Stocked with catchable rainbow. 100% open. No boat ramps, small lake. Campgrounds in area. Good family fishery. Heavy pressure. Fishing from boats with internal combustion motors is unlawful. Up American Fork Canyon.

Trial Lake

Contains rainbow and brook trout. Beautiful lake in the high Uintas. Generally not open until the first of June. Popular camping area in a spectacular alpine setting. Off Highway 150.

Utah Lake

Contains white bass, largemouth bass; walleye; channel and bullhead catfish; carp; suckers (the June sucker is endangered and must be left alone) and a few trout (mostly in the mouths of the rivers entering into the lake). Elevation 4,485 feet. West of Provo. State park, several marinas, boat ramps, camping, picnic areas, motel/hotels available in nearby towns. Often very good for big channel cats, walleye and white bass.

Vernon Reservoir

Contains rainbow and brown trout. Follow the signs south of Vernon. Small reservoir popular with fly fishermen. Fishing from boats with internal combustion motors isunlawful. Primitive camping nearby.

Yearns Reservoir

Contains rainbow trout. Stocked with catchables. Good access. No boat ramp. Some camping. Small reservoir mostly of local interest. Access up Manti Canyon out of the town of Manti.

Yuba (Sevier Bridge) Reservoir

Contains perch, walleye, northern pike, catfish, bass and a few trout. State park, boat ramps. Follow the signs from I-15 north of Scipio, or from U-28 north of Gunnison.
