Sand Hollow State Park


Red rock and red sand meet warm, blue water at this state park, which is one of the most popular in Utah. ATV trails run over sand dune access to Sand Mountain in the park, and additional trails are located nearby. This is a great place to camp, picnic, boat, fish and ride ATVs.

Sand Hollow Reservoir’s warm water makes it ideal for skiing and other water sports. Anglers fish for bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish.

Nearby attractions include St George City, Quail Creek State Park and Red Cliffs BLM Recreation area. Zion National Park is within an easy driving distance.

Sand Hollow is a very popular, very scenic state park near St. George in southwest Utah. It offers a warm-water reservoir, sandy beaches and red rock; an access tunnel to Sand Mountain provides ATV trails through the sand dunes.

Location

Located near Hurricane, approximately 297 miles south of Salt Lake City. It is a 45-minute drive from the park to Zion National Park and 20 minutes to St George. From I-15, take the Hurricane exit (Exit 16). Travel east on State Highway 9 for about four miles to Sand Hollow Road and then turn right. Travel south for 4.5 miles and turn left at the park entrance.

Open Hours

Open year-round; no holiday closures

March-November: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
November-March: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Decontamination Station Hours

Invasive mussels have been found in Sand Hollow Reservoir. People who boat here must take special precautions to decontaminate their boats and gear before accessing the reservoir.

October-March

  • Monday-Thursday: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.; 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Friday-Sunday: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

April-September

  • Monday-Sunday: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fees cover entrance, access to watercraft launches and OHV access.

  • Day use: $15 per vehicle Monday-Thursday; $20 Friday-Sunday

Camping

Two campgrounds to choose from: Sandpit Campground (ATV's allowed to drive in) offers 19 dry camping sites, six power sites and five group sites. All sites have a fire ring and picnic table. Westside campground has 50 sites with full hook-ups. Westside sites have covered picnic tables and fire rings. Both campgrounds have restrooms with showers which is included in your camping fee.

Primitive camping area available for tent camping and RVs — all must be self contained October through March.
