Trail Overview
Get your wheels in the game on the easy to moderate doubletrack Outlaw Range Ride. The OHV trail in Vernal, Utah, runs through a portion of the picturesque Uinta Mountains. Along the 28-mile loop, you may encounter elk, mountain goats, mule deer and bighorn sheep. Coyotes and black bears have been known to make an appearance, as well.
The fixed scenery is impressive, too. You’ll drive through grassy meadows (look out for vibrant wildflowers in July), towering trees and rushing streams. The trail consists of smooth and hard packed dirt and gravel roads. Depending on the season, you may splash through some hefty puddles on the path.
Along the way, take a break to explore the Stringham cabin. Originally built in 1926, it has been restored to its original splendor (or lack thereof). You can peek inside to see the antique stove and sparse furnishings used by the family for eight summers while sheepherding. Nearby is the sheep wagon where the children slept.
