Grand Canyon Hiking

The trails below are excellent for day hikes at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The North Kaibab Trail goes down into the canyon. The other trails listed stay up on the rims. More strenuous treks, like hiking all the way down to the river, or hiking from rim to rim, involve backpacking and are beyond the scope of our trail guide.

Our favorite Grand Canyon hiking trails

Bright Angel Point Trail (Easy)

This paved trail leads to spectacular Bright Angel Point, on Grand Canyon's North Rim. The point is a must-see feature at the North Rim.

Cape Final Trail (Easy)

Cape Final is a spur jutting east from Cape Royal. It is not as well known, and you've got to hike a fair distance to enjoy the vista.

Cape Royal Trail (Easy)

Cape Royal is a long peninsula extending from the North Rim out over the Grand Canyon. It offers a phenomenal view.

Ken Patrick Trail (Moderate)

This is one of the longer trails on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It runs from the North Kaibab Trail parking area to Point Imperial.

North Kaibab Trail (Strenuous)

North Kaibab is the only maintained North Rim trail that descends into the Grand Canyon. All other Trails stay up on the rim.

Transept Trail (Easy)

The Transept Trail is located at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It follows the canyon rim from the campground down to the North Rim Lodge.

Widforss Trail (Moderate)

This trail, located on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, runs along the forested rim above Transept gorge, offering outstanding views.
