Discover Ramblers - Beaver County
Explore galore — the perfect year-round destination retreat for families, history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts.
Located in southwestern Utah — roughly 3.5 hours from Las Vegas or Salt Lake City — Beaver County, also known as Ramblers, is more than just an I-15 pitstop where you can fill up your tank and buy a funny bumper sticker. It’s a destination in and of itself. From the raw beauty of Tushar Mountains to the rugged desert landscape of the Mineral Mountains, adventure is plentiful and people are sparse. The county seat, Beaver City, is actually a small town with just over 3,100 residents. As for tourists? Not too many of those either. Which makes it the perfect place for a quick, quiet getaway.
Tushar Mountains
Utah’s third highest mountain range, the Tushars, is found on the east side of the freeway.
Hiking and Biking
Are you a peak bagger? Delano Peak stands proud at 12,174 feet, earning the seventh spot in Utah’s top 10 list of highest peaks. But even casual hikers (and mountain bikers) appreciate the hundreds of miles of alpine trails bolstering backcountry access.
Off-Roading
The Tushars are also home to much of the Paiute ATV Trail. You can spend a few hours or a few days exploring the impressive off-road network. Grab a map and choose your own adventure. Parts of the trail are open year-round; those at higher elevations may not be open until July when the Greatest Snow on Earth® has met the same fate as Elphaba (read: melted). But there are still places to go snowmobiling when the Tushars are a powdery playground.
Skiing and Snowboarding
Say “ta-ta” to the long lift lines and high prices at mega-resorts. Eagle Point Resort — perched high on the slopes of the Tushars — averages 400 inches of snow each year across its 650 skiable acres. It also boasts over 1,500 vertical feet, some of the steepest terrain serviced by lifts in Utah. During the summer months, Eagle Point Resort is open for mountain biking, hiking, fishing and canoeing. Not to mention paintball and disc golf.
Mineral Mountains
This range on the west side of the freeway might not be as tall as the Tushars but it is definitely not short on things to do.
Rockhounding
The solidified molten formation was once mined for silver and lead. Today, hiking trails follow old wagon tracks left behind by the mining boom and the Mineral range is a rockhounding haven. Practically everything but Infinity Stones has been found here — blue beryl (aka aquamarine), azurite, purple opal, obsidian and smoky quartz. You might also want to swing by Frisco, a mining ghost town that was once a popular haunt.
Climbing
Trad climbers who want to redline routes without waiting in line often turn their attention to Milford Domes and its assortment of white granite cliffs, towers, buttresses and castles. The area is accessible from Milford via Highway 21, an incredibly scenic drive. Granite Peak has some fun climbs as well.
Fishing
Do you prefer a rod and a reel to a rope and a belay device? Check out Granite Peak Reservoir or Minersville State Park, both excellent spots for spinners, baitcasters and fly fishers.
Annual Events
As with most things in life, timing is everything. Consider planning your Beaver County, Utah, getaway in conjunction with one of these annual events.
- Beaver ATV Jamboree | October
- Crusher in the Tushar Bike Race | July
- Stampede Rodeo | July
- Beaver Canyon Marathon | August
Or maybe you want to avoid the area when more people are likely to be there. Introvert or extrovert, all outdoor personalities are welcome here.
