Gifts, Food, Fun: Just Your Average Day at the Farmers Market

Growers and creators converge in communities every year for farmers market season, where you can buy a vine-ripened tomato right next to a hand-blown glass vase. There’s no better place to pick up a cream-stuffed pastry, a carton of freshly-picked raspberries and a funky belt than a farmers market in Utah.

Summer Farmers Markets

Fill your water bottle, slap on some sunscreen and a hat: Summer farmers markets can get hot and crowded. But the treasures you find? Deliciously worth it. And once you find a parking place, you can shop, eat and meander on the same block for as long as you want.

Ashley Valley Farmers Market | 225 E Main St, Vernal

After a day of exploring Flaming Gorge, head into Vernal to pick up some fresh produce and locally made salsa at the Ashley Valley market. Buskers provide entertainment while you shop. Open Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., from July through September. 

Roosevelt Farmers Market | 100 N 100 E, Roosevelt

Gourmet marshmallows, artisan bread, jewelry, art and veggies are just some of the kinds of products you’ll find at the small but varied Roosevelt market. Held every Thursday from late July through September. Open 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Brigham City Farmers Market | 20 N Main, Brigham City

This small market averages 20 vendors per week, selling produce grown in Box Elder County. The area is best known for its fruit: apricots, cherries and peaches. Pick them up in season from mid-June through September. Open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays.

Cache Valley Gardeners’ Market | 199 N Main St, Logan

How does Cache Valley celebrate a bountiful harvest? With vendor booths lining the historic courthouse and local talent providing live music. Open early May — pick up a present for Mother’s Day — until October. Typical market fare; fresh fruit and pastries are highlights.

Farmers Market Ogden| Historic 25th Street, Ogden

If you can grow it, it’s probably for sale at the Ogden farmers market: flowers, fruit, vegetables, herbs. If you can craft it, it’s there, too. The summer market is open Saturdays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There’s entertainment, too; each week the main stage hosts two acts. In conjunction with the market, a free community yoga class is held at the Municipal Gardens — so you can limber up your muscles for carrying all your finds.

Bountiful Farmers Market | 75 E 200 S, Bountiful

Bountiful’s town square is filled with vendors selling fresh produce, sauces, arts and crafts during its weekly market. Live music is provided by local musicians. Booths are open from 4 to 8 p.m. each Thursday from late June to mid-October. No dogs allowed.

Park City Farmer’s Market | 4000 Canyons Resort Dr, Park City

Get out of the most intense summer heat and head up to Park City for the day. Get your fill of hiking and artsy shops, then head over to the farmers market; you’ll find an assortment of fresh and organic foods from local vendors. Open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., June to mid-October.

Park Silly Sunday Market | Main Street, Park City

Call it an arters market. Each Sunday in June and select Sundays in July and September, Main Street is lined with artists, jewelers, designers and service vendors (massage, henna tattoos, etc.) Rest assured, there are plenty of gourmet and snack food options available at Park Silly, too. The event is held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

Downtown Farmers Market | Pioneer Park, 350 S 300 W, Salt Lake City

The perimeter of Pioneer Park is lined with booths selling local produce, artisan breads, pastries, cheeses and other fun finds each Saturday from June to October. The Salt Lake farmers market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Take a break from shopping and listen to a busker after you pick up lunch from one of the exotic food vendors.

9th West Farmers Market | 1060 S 900 W, Salt Lake City

Held along the north drive of the International Peace Gardens, this market is open Sundays from mid-June to mid-October, 10 a.m to 3 p.m. This is Utah’s only non-profit farmers market in the Salt Lake valley. Live entertainment and vendor booths.

Liberty Park Farmers Market | 600 N 900 S, Salt Lake City

Farm-to-table food and specialty items are for sale Friday evenings from mid-June to early October. Head to Liberty Park from 4-10 p.m.

Sunnyvale Farmers Market | 4013 S 70 W, Millcreek

This market is operated by New Roots SLC, an organization that aims to give refugees easier access to healthy food through small community gardens and local farms. Open Saturday from mid-June to early October, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Utah Farm Bureau Farmers Market | 296 E Murray Park Way, Murray

This is a food-only market: produce and other pantry items such as bread, jam and salsa. Open Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from late July through October.

Wheeler Sunday Market | 6351 S 900 E, Murray

Open Sundays from the end of May and through mid-October. Items include fresh produce, eggs and milk; packaged food such as jams and honey; and handmade crafts and personal items. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Utah Farm Bureau Farmers Market | 1600 Towne Center Dr, South Jordan

Mainly food items are sold at this market, although there are a few spaces for select artisans. Shop Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting in August and continuing through mid-October.

Daybreak Farmers Market | 11274 Kestrel Rise Rd, South Jordan

Art, salsa, jewelry, jam — you’ll find it at the Daybreak market all summer long. It starts the second week of June and goes until October; open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Herriman Farmers Market | 12998 S Fort Herriman Pkwy, Herriman

Take the family and head over to the Herriman Farmers Market Monday nights at J. Lynn Crane Park. Sellers offer locally grown and organic produce; booths are open from 5-9 p.m.

Eagle Mountain Farmers Market | 5806 Pony Express Parkway, Eagle Mountain

Farmers, food artisans, food trucks, food booths — if you need something fresh for dinner, head to the Eagle Mountain market. Held Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June through September.

Provo Farmers Market | 500 W Center St, Provo

Shop the Provo Farmers Market for locally grown food, as well as unique arts and crafts. The event is open Saturdays, June through August, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; September through October hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Orem Farmers Market | 293 E Center St, Orem

Join the food fest on Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m. The market runs from July through October. Free concerts, free yoga classes, food trucks and, of course, locally grown and handmade items.

Carbon & Emery Farmers Market | 406 S Hwy 55, Price

Dinosaurs probably would have shopped here if they had the chance. Pick up some freshly picked tomatoes, local honey and grass-fed ground beef — just to name a few popular items. Open every Saturday July through October; hours are 9 a.m. to noon.

Wayne County Farmers Market | 10 N Center St, Torrey

Spend the morning hiking around Capitol Reef, then pick up some fresh ingredients for your dinner at the Wayne County Farmers Market. It runs every Saturday from mid-May through October; open 4-6 p.m.

Hurricane Farmers Market | 63 S 100 W, Hurricane

Locally grown food and locally made items share the stage at Hurricane’s summer market. It opens in May and continues through November. The market happens every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Perfect for picking up some snacks for your day at the beach.

Downtown Farmers Market | Worthen Park, 300 S 400 E, St. George

The St. George Farmers Market is open every Saturday from May through October, 8 a.m. to noon. Pick up some freshly picked vegetables, pasture-raised meats and products made by local artisans.

Fall Farmers Markets

Farmers Market Ogden | Historic 25th Street, Ogden

Held Saturdays, from the second weekend of September through the third week of October, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Along with the usual fruits and vegetables, there are several free community activities, including a paw parade with your pooch and a weekly community yoga class.

U of U Farmers Market | Tanner Humanities Center, 215 S Central Campus Dr, Salt Lake City

Pick up some tasty treats and unique clothing made by local artisans at the University of Utah market on Thursdays. The booths are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from late August to October. Popular local restaurants often sell some of their specialties here.

Millcreek Harvest Market | 1354 E Chambers Ave, Millcreek

Open October to November, you can pick up the best of the fall harvest at the Millcreek market. There are the usual finds, as well as food trucks and holiday themed crafts. Open Fridays from 4-8 p.m. at Millcreek Common.

South Jordan Farmers | 1600 Towne Center Dr, South Jordan

This food-only market is open on Saturdays from August to October. There’s produce from local farmers and meat products from Utah ranchers. Bribe the kids to join you; there’s a crafter’s table each week just for them. Open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Winter Farmers Markets

Farmers Market Ogden | Union Station, 2501 Wall Ave, Ogden

Locally sourced produce such as beets, cabbage and winter squash; food such as honey, jams, breads and pastries; and plants, flowers and seeds to start your own garden in the spring. Held inside the historic Union Station every Saturday in February, from 10 to 2 p.m.

Downtown Farmers Market | The Gateway, 110 S Rio Grande St, Salt Lake City

Head to The Gateway from early November through mid-April for the Downtown Farmers Market in Salt Lake City. You’ll find local produce, baked goods, eggs and meats, as well as the condiments to go with them. Local artisans and crafters have booths there, as well. Park in the North Garage — free for the first hour — or on the street. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday except Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends. 

Wheeler Winter Sunday Market | 6351 S 900 E, Murray

Wheeler Farm hosts a Sunday farmers market from January to late March. Local artists and food makers set up in the Outdoor Education Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Downtown Farmers Market | Worthen Park, 300 S 400 E, St. George

Held Saturdays in November to mid-December, then February to April; winter hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You’ll find locally grown produce, meats and artisanal goods. Dance to the live music to keep warm as you shop.

Year-round Farmers Markets

Festival City Farmers Market | 100 W University Blvd, Cedar City

Local farmers, bakers and artisans line up along University Boulevard on Saturdays year-round. January through April, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; May-October, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; November and December, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During the summer months, when the Utah Shakespeare Festival is in full swing, there’s also a Wednesday night event; food trucks, local musicians and artisans are set up from 4 to 8 p.m.

Tuacahn Saturday Market | 1100 Tuacahn Dr, Ivins

Local artists, artisans and crafters join food vendors to line the tree-lined walkway leading to the Tuacahn amphitheater. The market is open every Saturday. May-September, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; October-April, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There’s usually live entertainment, as well.
